foraging

Today me and Allsy went for a wander down the lane we live on. It's strange how much the lane transforms during the year, with each season the mood completely changes. During the spring and summer, it's an amazing place to live and I feel very blessed but during the winter it's a completely different matter. It's cold and bleak and with the absence of street lights and very few neighbours it's also quite scary. When we moved in to the cottage December last year I absolutely hated it. I cried a lot, constantly thought I saw faces at the window and the sheer silence terrified me. I desperately wanted to move but I'm so glad I stuck with the house as come springtime it suddenly changed, the air felt different somehow, it became a happy place to live.

I went on our little walk armed with a pair of secateurs as today I thought it would be fun to join in with Lou of Littlegreenshed's, Nature in the Home series. Nature is a constant presence in our home, I'm not fussy in what shape it comes either, whether its bucketfuls of cow parsley that I've picked from the side of the road, daffodils picked from my garden, broken twigs that I've found near my house and like the shape of, or a bunch of Gypsophila from a supermarket, nature is beautiful in so many forms.

It's amazing what you can find in such close proximity to your house, some of these are considered weeds and some are branches off mangy looking trees but to me each of them are lovely. So go on, why not get out there and do a bit of foraging yourself...

    1. Thank you, I think I got a bit giddy with the secateurs, a few walkers looked at me a bit strangely with my hands crammed full of branches and weeds!! :)

    1. Thanks Gillian, we feel very lucky to live here, there's also no way I would have dared forage that much if it wasn't on my doorstep! :)

    1. Haha thanks Jane! I know I think I may have been a bit brazen with my foraging, I had none of the guilt you had, not sure what that says about me! :)
