workspaces

Happy Friday guys and gals

I have to come clean with you all, recently I haven't been gardening. Other than a spot of dead-heading and watering, no hardcore gardening has taken place on my land. I know I know, I feel thoroughly ashamed. The problem is that recently I have been obsessing over ideas for the house. The house is looking rather tired and me and Allsy are desperate to have a proper sort and clear out and to finally get around to decorating the living room and kitchen to more how we'd like it. I am someone who once I get an idea in my head it's all I can think of, that is precisely what's happening now.

I have been doing lots of browsing of the internet and quite a bit of pinning of images, looking for inspiration and ideas for the house. One of the main areas that I've been wanting to sort out is Allsy's desk area. Our living room is teeny tiny but is used for a multitude of purposes, it's Allsy's recording studio (he has a lot of music equipment), it's where we both draw, paint, do collages, write, read, watch films and programmes and everything in between. Every bit of space in this room is vital and in its current state just isn't right. Here's what it looks like at the moment.

You can't tell here but the table takes up a huge amount of space, it has lots of space behind due to the fact it's round, it also is a gate legged table with eight legs in total so you can't fit any storage underneath it (hence the printer to the side) and the style isn't quite right for us for this room. Don't worry though, the table will hopefully be put to good use in our spare bedroom as a crafting table when we finally get round to sorting it out, would you believe we still have unpacked boxes after living here for almost two years?!

Anyhoo, I'm starting to get an idea of how I'd like that area to look, here are some of the images that have been inspiring me...

allsy's grandads

On Sunday me and Allsy went to his Grandad's house. Allsy's Grandad, Dennis, is a true character, a Hungarian man who escaped to this country during Stalin's power, he is an eccentric to say the least and has had such an incredible life.

Dennis is also a true plantsman. He has the largest greenhouse I have ever seen which used to be full of cactuses, grown on a very large scale. I have seen photos and trust me it looked impressive. Sadly due to personal circumstances many didn't survive but I would have loved to have seen it. It also has been home to a huge amount of snails and chickens, although obviously not at the same time, that would be madness.

Here is the greenhouse in its current state. I also love it like this too and would be very happy pottering about in there...

Dennis does appear to grow quite a lot of succulents, these trays seemed to stretch out for miles.

Within the main garden, there are various buildings, one for storing wood but most seem to contain items hoarded over the years.

There are also various other hoarded items laying around the garden, no doubt in case they come in useful.

Dennis's garden is a bit of a car graveyard too, I bet this one was a real beauty in its time.

He also grows a lot of roses. His tip for growing good roses is to completely neglect them. To just let them do their thing. A risky strategy perhaps but it seems to work as all the climbers, ramblers and bushes were smothered in flowers.

With the weather being so nice we spent most of the evening outside so unfortunately I didn't manage to get many photos of the inside of his home. Will try to get some next time as I love his home in equal amounts to his garden! Here is a sneaky glimpse of the kitchen to give you an idea of what it's like. Warning: minimalists look away!

Towards the end of the evening we went for a walk with Allsy's uncle around the nature reserve behind his house. It was a very beautiful place, stupidly I forgot to charge the batteries on my camera before I went out so these are the only photos I have.

It was a lovely evening though.

around my home

My home is a ramshackle sort of space. A comfy, cosy, colourful place to be. A place filled with hand me down furniture, pretty flowers, prints and paintings and a fair amount of tack. I've often felt almost apologetic for the state of my home, it's tatty, mismatched and paint samples are everywhere and if I'm honest it probably will remain that way for some time but me and Allsy love it here and hopefully the happiness we feel for this place shows...
