rain

After a few lovely days of sunshine the rain has returned.

With the great downpours, the cold has also made a reappearance and so here I am, in my home, swaddled in blankets.

The garden has been ravaged.

The flowers dismantled. The petals lay scattered and crushed.

And I'm right there with them.

My body's tired and heavy. My heart aches. My eyes on the verge of tears.

I've been round the garden trying my hardest to repair the damage. Tying in sweetpeas, clematis and honeysuckle to encourage them to climb back up, to head towards the sun. I'm not sure how to pick myself back up again though.

At the moment blankets, hot ribena and loud music seems like the best option. Sometimes it's best just to stay still.

This week I almost didn't join in with Littlegreenshed's Nature in the Home series, but what Lou said about pink being a happy colour stuck with me and so I thought I'd give it a go. I've never been a big fan of pink and due to my current mood those bright candy shades of pink, rather than making me smile, are turning my stomach. But a slight blush of pink that's a different story.

I've used my favourite vase, well for exactly that reason. It may not go at all but boy am I glad to see it.

I've gathered all the fragile flowers, petals clinging on, they only have a day of two left but it felt good to rescue them to live out their last moments inside.

And supporting them, I've picked great clouds of cow parsley and towering stalks of aquilegia, showing that first blush of pink before they explode into flower.

Graceful and fragile, they couldn't be more perfect.
